Ok, so NOW i'm freaked...
I am turning 60 tomorrow...
and i'm not one little bit happy about that
and you know what i got for my 60th birthday???
a colonoscopy
isn't that just great...
...somehow birthdays just aren't what they used to be...
sorry, probably TMI -
(everything was ok, except for the 7 polyps and diverticuli, and having a twisty colon)
When you get my age, and something hurts, you think cancer, heart attack, aneurism, brain tumor...
I mean, when you have had anxiety issues and panic attacks since you were 18 years old, as i have, you've thought multiple times you were dying... right then and there!
But when you turn 60 and you think you could be dying of something,
it really could be happening!
and then you get to be quadruply freaked out, if that's even possible...
I was trying to take decent photos of myself with my iphone for the "holy crap i'm 60 blog post", and everytime i looked at the photo i took, i was like OMFG... do i look that old!
So i decided to make faces in the camera... like this one
and then immediately pulled out my "to do" list, and wrote - call dermatologist re: price of botox
then i decided to be brave and take a photo without my makeup to show you... because you know, it's just real...
but i'm not "real" enough to do a closeup, that's for sure...
you can see i have no eyebrows...
glad it was dark, and the mirror was blurry...
if you're seeing a photo of me at this time of nite looking really happy, it's probably because i've been drinking
which reminds me... have you seen the blogger Maskara.. she's adorable, and talks about the importance of having good brows... you should go check her out
i need her! everytime i try to make my eyebrows bigger i end up looking like Cruella Deville
Anyway, i always thought when i was this age, I would have a pink car... maybe something like this...
or this
(cream leather interior please)
AND... i would have a little beach cottage...
this would be just fine...
it could be teeny weeny
I would have time to meditate, and do yoga, and paint... and do fun crafty things... and drink wine at lunch with my friends
and now, here i sit, at a job i've worked at for 20 years typing a blog post to my friends and showing photos of myself getting old and telling personal stuff about my life
in reality...
I work 40 hours a week, and it's tricky making ends meet
I have to take valium to drive to the rented beach cottage that we can afford and that smells like old tennis shoes
I cook Thanksgiving meals for my kids, but it's not really a big feast, and they eat like their dad,,
(kind of like Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies)
and my son always starts looking for the vodka stash which of course i don't have
And i have a little black suv, that i'm making car payments on
little Cindy
Sooo, your whole life you think, when i get old, this is what it will be like
and then all of a sudden you're kinda old, and you realize that none of it has happened yet
and time is going really really fast....
and you think ... hey, wait a minute!
i AM older NOW, and i don't see a pink car or a beach cottage!
so now what do I do?
anyway, i haven't given up on the pink car yet...
although, i am getting a little concerned about the beach cottage...
.
...we'll just have to see
you never know, i'm a magical thinker
i might just conjure them both
happy halloween
... the end...
OMG you crack me up!!!! Happy 60th you old bag(as my mom would always say to her friends...starting in their 40's they called each other 'old bag'and would laugh and laugh!). You really truly do not look 60!!!!!! I had no idea. Your wild blonde hair makes you look young darling. Just yesterday I had this little quote running through my head "Embrace every moment for what it is." So there you go...and i hope you get your dream pink car. xxo
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous!!! Keep thinking Magically... I totally can relate~~~~~
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Cindy!!!! You look fabulous!!!!! I love your posts . You always make me laugh!! I just turned 65 in September. Now that's old! You look great, and I wish all your dreams come true.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday
Kathy
Welcome to your 60's. I'm there already, too, Cindy. It's not so bad but there is an awakening that comes when you realize that life is not exactly what you thought it was going to be....and probably will never be what we thought it "should" be.. Blessings to you and Happy Birthday- I think you are just beautiful! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Beautiful Girl!!! With or without makeup you are a doll! It takes nerve to do those up close shots...for me it's a good thing I can do the fade out thing and the bloom thing with photoscape...always decreases the wrinkles. I would say that you don't look 60 but every time someone says that to me(64) I think what the hell am I supposed to look like...an old wrinkly hag!
Maybe one day you'll get your pink ride or your beach house so don't give up yet. I have a feeling that you live life to the fullest and one things for sure...you always make me smile. You are talented, beautiful and have a great sense of humor. I'm hoping one day I get to meet you for real.
Have a wonderful birthday. You deserve it!
hugs
Sissie
I'm with you Cindy, literally. I turned 60 in March, but didn't tell anyone. You're beautiful and funny and talented and did I mention brave? and yes, loved by your friends and family. This is something we all go thru sooner or later...if we're lucky...no, if we're blessed. thanks for sharing your sweet self with all of us. we think you're fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteDelightful post!!! I'm 61! Will be 62 in March! Don't mind it a bit! I was fortunate enough to retire at 60, so I was real happy when that birthday came along. I was burned out totally! State Government work.....24 years of it! If that doesn't wear you out, nothing will! Anywho, my eyebrows have gotten thin and they don't go all the way across my eyes, so I have to draw some on. When I was a teen I had unibrow!! So what did i do??? I shaved between the brows for years, then went to electrolysis for years to have them removed! Wish I'd left a few! So, just be happy you've made it to 60 and still have a sense of humor! I am! I hope you get your pink car and beach cottage. I really, really enjoyed your post! And, Happy birthday!! Have a fab weekend!
ReplyDeletedahling....you look MAHVELOUS!! and i mean it! and maybe i have been drinking too, but i know beauty when i see it and you are it! i am 54 and my eyebrows are almost gone now....no one told me that would happen, so now, i draw on my eyes, my lips and my brows....oy vey....at least i can draw.
ReplyDeletehappy birthday, lovie!!
erin
xxoo
btw...we are all gonna die....some time, some where....let's make the most of living while we can....okray!?.
:)
ReplyDeleteHappiest of Happy Birthdays to you, my dear Cindy! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! You were a beautiful baby who grew up gorgeous, I just didn't know how pretty you are until you showed these lovely, fun photos of yourself!
ReplyDeleteOk, so you're 60. And you had a colonoscopy. This helps me when I start to grumble about things, I do try to think about the silver lining (I know, I know, I'm not normally a "look on the bright side" person, and I usually just want to punch those types of people in the nose). You are 60 now so you're still living your life, and you had a colonscopy, which means you have the means (health insurance and access to medical care) to get one which really is a good thing. You have a husband and children and lots of friends and people (like me) who adore you. You have a beautiful home and a nice car and a steady job. You've got beauty, and talent in spades in multiple areas (painting, decorating, DIY, gardening + things I'm sure we readers don't even know about!). All of those things are blessings, including your age.
I'm right there with you on the beach cottage, and I'd love to have a new car, pink or otherwise. You are a magical being, so get to conjuring, sister!
Best wishes for a great birthday!
Much love,
Kimberly
You make me laugh and you also make me sit up straight and listen. i am not too far behind you, but this isn't about me. First, your close ups are wonderful...you have a cute nose, a sweet smile and sparkly, ALIVE eyes! Not to mention beautiful hair and cheekbones. Okay, I read Mascara, too and she is super big on brows (but I love her).. I look like a transvestite when I try to do my brows. My trick, a blonde pencil just at the beginning of them near the nose. I know a girl who had them tattooed on after over-plucking!
ReplyDeleteAnd for all those things we want...I've been longing for "things" since I was 18, and then they were replaced by other "things". Hopefully we will narrow it all done to whats doable.
Happy Birthday, sweet lady. Sending hugs and an invite to my rather boring (compared to yours) blog!
XO,
Jane
Happy Birthday! You are such a darling! We should all be so cute at any age.
ReplyDeleteyou are so seriously funny! I hit the big 60 a few weeks ago and did the same thing...posted a picture of myself all scrubbed clean and natural (my face only). I was shocked to say the least and I also have no eyebrows, what is with that???? Anyway, I think you look wonderful, you are real and you've lived life. Just keep telling yourself that it is ok and maybe it will sink in, I'm still waiting! Have a Happy Birthday sweetpea.
ReplyDeleteI can so relate. I am soon to be 58 and life just isn't what I thought it would be. I try to focus on the good things, I have a good paying job - I hate - I own my house - which is home but there are so many things that I want to do with it - which may or may not happen - I have 3 kids - all grown - but 2 are still at home - can't afford to live on their own - and the one that doesn't live here can't afford to live where he does without calling every 2 weeks needing money. Boobs are looking at the floor, well to be honest everything seems to be headed south - an instead of getting botox or lifestyle lift I am having laser done on fungus toenails. Gawd its awful - but as I keep telling myself there are lots of good things - they just seem to get offset by all the other crap. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh and btw I have the faded barely visible eyebrows going on too. :)
ReplyDeleteDeborah
P.S. Happy Birthday (anyway)
YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL WOMEN !!!! ENJOY YOUR VISIT... JUST KIDDING...!!! LOVED ALL YOUR PHOTOS... SWEET PEA XO TAUSHA
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely the cutest little 60 year old I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Loved every photo of your darling little self Cindy!!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love reading your posts---you always have me laughing.
sending BIG BIRTHDAY HUGS!!!!!!!
Pffffffft!!! You don't look 60, Cindy!! What ARE you worried about??? Take a goooood look at yourself, girlie. Really good look. You have FABULOUS hair. Check. You have fabulous lips. Check. I sure don't see many wrinkles at all. Check. You have a quick wit and wild sense of humor. Check.
ReplyDeleteNOPE. You are NOT old yet. You've got nothin' to worry about. You have been truly blessed with some great genes, that's for sure! I hope that I look as great as you when I hit 60 (in 5 years).
So...that being said.... HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIRLFRIEND!!!! ♥
xoxo laurie
You look amazing! I so love your sense of humor. I would never guess you to be 60. I hope your birthday was wonderful! Big eyebrows are overrated in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAll this time we've been talking I thought you were 30 - 40! Holey cow (or lamb or feather or whatever you are painting). I sure didn't end up where I thought I would be at 61 but it turned out to be better than anything I'd imagined anyway. Fifty totally sucks but 60 is when you truly find freedom. You're going to love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to a beautiful, witty, fun and talented lady.
ReplyDeleteOh I am a day late to your lovely party!!! You are a doll and you look amazing! Beautiful with or without makeup. For real. End of discussion. Please write a book. Or get an agent for a reality tv show because I think you would be a major sensation!! You have it going on girl! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! I'm late, but Happy Birthday pretty lady! Seriously, Cindy....I'm turning 60 Jan.1st, and I WISH I looked half as good as you!! You are a beauty. From our email conversations...I think you are just as beautiful inside as you are on the outside. I LOVE your sense of humor. You dazzle me with your talents. You inspire me with your decorating skills. And I love how you end all of your posts with "the end."
ReplyDeleteSmooches.

Oh, Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI might have missed this one if not for your visit...dang girl 60, your OLD!!
NOT!!
You know, it's not how you feel, it's how you look and you look Mav-a-Lou Dahling ! The old day with Saturday Night Live !
As for your son and husband and the Jethro Bodine reference to the eating just through a box of cereal and a super sized mixing bowl in front of them and call it a holiday.cindy I never laugh as much as I do until I visit you, I told you I need to be your neighbor, cuse I am right behind you in the age bracket by 3 years in January, yikes! Did I admit to my age?
And that whole anxiety thing, me too about 18, 19 for me as well. I hate that panic feeling of death at my door when I feel the big one coming over me, yet I have seemed to have combated a big part of my panic attacks, by listening to myself and forgetting everyone else lol!
Hey Cindy, I agree with Amy,
Yet I also think you should be writing a column in a news paper or writing for children's picture books...oooop's I mean adult picture books lol!
You my dear are way to funny, creative, and so with it to suffer with anything but funniness !!
Thank you sweet friend for getting rid of my headache, and giving me a laugh.
Happy 60 th
And that pink car is on its way, along with a beach cottage next to mine....
Love yah girl!
Xoxo

Happy belated birthday Cindy. You are gorgeous. My mom use to tell me that as long as there is life there's hope. Who knows, you pink car and beach house may be around the corner.
ReplyDeleteCindy, Happy, happy, tho belated, Birthday!!! You look fabulous my darling:) You really do! You and I are just a hair under 3 months apart in age, and I think it's just a number, right? I think what really ages a person is their attitude...you have a great attitude! I certainly do not feel 60 (but I will admit, it still takes a minute to type "60"...lol May the year ahead be full of much love, many blessings and lots more of your beautiful paintings!!! Hugs my friend! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Cindy but there is no way you look 60 years old, you look amazing. Don't worry too much about the diverticulitis, I have it too but I find that its worse if I eat food that has small seeds or pips in it. Like you I am getting a list of ailments as each year goes by but I am trying to change my diet (went a bit crazy today with a pie and donut) but usually I am now eating healthy salads and have cut out all gluten.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a really lovely day and maybe you will get that pink car one day, I know its something you would love and I can just see heads turning as you drive with your gorgeous blonde hair flowing in the wind in your pink car.
Lee :)
Oh Cindy…I feel your shock at turning 60. I am 61 and will be 62 in March. Never did I think I would be this old and it kinda sucks. Just seeing the number on paper will make you do a small vomit in your mouth. But…dang there is no alternative so we keep trucking along right? Hope you treated yourself right on your special day!
